Whats any good as an attacking ship? or something to make that allows you to take out a few attackers of your planets/miners?

Had some of my probes destroyed Shocked Shocked
and the attackers had ship 'toughness' of about 300+, what sort of chassis will this be? frigate looks a little weak for that number.

They're called Destroyers, they come right after Frigate (with has a toughness of 250). Or it's a Frigate with armour plates, but that's unlikely.

Frigates are fine btw, the bigger the ship, the less impulse/warp it gets from an engine (because it's heavier and loggier to move about).

In my opinion, the Frigate has the best impulse:cells ratio, the bigger ships lose a lot of maneuverability, which you would have to compensate by using more engines... thus nullifying the benefit from extra slots.

Of course the better the weapons you have, the better it'll be! From what I read at my level, a good number of ships with a combination of small and medium lasers (two small ones do slightly more damage than one medium, but lower aiming so I do a bit of both) and a number of Scorps work a treat. Scorps may be shit for aiming, but when they hit they really pack a punch. I have a few Frigates like this:


*DX-2 Engine (7) - They do need warp, after all
*GMT-3 Engine (5) - Added impulse, otherwise they won't last long in battle
*Scorp (3) x3 - Firepower!
*Small Laser (2) x2 - Moar firepower!

I also have a few that mostly have lasers and one Scorp. It seems like a waste to use half your chassis on Engine, but they really need the impulse to do good in battle... you could use DX-1 instead of DX-2, but they'll take twice as long to get where you want em. Good luck!

thnx m8 im researching GMT-3 atm (simple) and scorps are just after it (also simple) so in a few days i can make some bitchin attack ships to attack the infadels!

also is armour/tactics worth it atall?

Doombringer has 250 cells.....i couldnt even fill that atm lol

You could make one Doombringer with 80 Scorps! Razz

Generally armour isn't really worth it IMO, since you need engines (if you settle for really slow warp you can go for a DX-1 and a GMT-3 and free up three slots that way) that take up precious slots already. You could even argue that one GMT-3 engine isn't enough... and then you need cells to carry your weapons around. You could spend cells on armour, but is it worth it? I'm not so sure.

Tactics I don't know either, I did it but now I have to research each tactic too... can't be arsed yet, takes way too long.

By coincidence this is exactly the profile for the Hucker Engineering 'Spiky' class Frigate (tm).

I'm trying to build 10 of these and then venture out to local space and kick some pirate booty to raise some battle xp?

Is this a good idea Science Officer Kal?

You might be able to take out some innocent miners with it, but I doubt you'd have much of a chance against any Reaper fleet better than 'Probe'. Not sure though.

The composition of Reaper fleets can be found here... even the second-weakest has three ships, with 500 Shield points and 500 hitpoints... so a whopping 3000 hitpoints for three ships. To outmaneuver them, you would need more than a GMT-3 on your Frigates. Their weapons are also WAY better than ours.

I'd advise against attacking them, but it's your call.

Just when I think things are looking up I find I'll need weeks, if not months of research to have any fun....

I imagine then that this is why ppl resort to attcking unarmed mining and cargo ships to get battle xp?

Should I just bimble round planets like Ralls1290 then and try to destroy anything that moves but is much smaller than me?

Maybe we can Consolodate our fleets into one, big easy monthly payment...wait, you know what i mean. a joint fleet that shall banish these foe's from the galaxy! and everyone shall turn to nusilme and beg for mercy and we shall whisper "no"

It's just that I see his fleets near my planet from time to time, I could take him out easily Wink. Just say the word... just found another 30+ Scorps and about the same amount of lasers on my colonies, so I'll be building some more battle ships lol.
